A positive Note

Hi Shark People!

We are gearing up for another season and will be getting on the water in late September. We are hoping for another successful season documenting the individual sharks that visit our California coastline! We are so grateful for the support received thus far, allowing us to start the season and get things rolling.

To start off the season on a positive note, we would like to take the time to mention an encouraging news story that makes us hopeful for the future of this planet. Yvon Chouinard, founder of the outdoor apparel company Patagonia, transferred all of Patagonia’s voting shares or stock to a trust charged with keeping the environmental values of the company. The trust will use the wealth generated from Patagonia to combat climate change and promote the conservation of the natural world. This bold move to address the climate crisis and give the earth a chance at long-term vitality, is truly inspirational. As a small gesture of gratitude, we would like name a shark after him! Below is Yvon Chouinard: a 17ft male shark we saw at the Farallones in 2021. At 17ft, this shark is likely to be over 75 years old and maybe around the same age as Yvon himself. As you can see, this shark has the marks and the scars of a long life well lived. We hope to see “Yvon” again this season!

Thanks!

Paul
